Downtown Delray, also known as "Village By The Sea", was a master plan and collaborative effort conceived by residents, business owners and community leaders. Adopted in 2002, and with streets stretching from I-95 to the beach, the plan provides a framework in the downtown area while preserving the city's character, and maintaining its architectural and urban design quality.
Community Redevelopment
In 1989, the city's Community Redevelopment Agency encouraged developers to build small stores in keeping with the town's old-fashioned, village-by-the-sea character and all you need to do is visit the area to see how good of a job they did. With fabulous, unique sidewalk restaurants and boutiques, this is a downtown area that everyone wants to visit.
In 1993, the city became one of ten communities nationwide to be named an All-America City by the National Civic League. In 1995, Florida Trend Magazine named it "The Best-Run Town in Florida."
